Principal’s Newsletter - Nov. 2008
Updated November 6, 2008
Dear Parents,
It is extremely important that your students do not arrive at school before 9:10 a.m. unless they are in the YMCA before school care or another school sponsored activity. Our supervisors are on the playground and in the cafeteria at 9:10. If students arrive early, they may be in an unsupervised situation where we cannot guarantee their safety. Please help us care for your children by not letting them come early.
This year at Altura Elementary we are focusing on a different character trait each month. These are traits that we believe will help your children be better students and community members now and as they grow to be adults. We talk about what each trait means and give examples of behavior each morning during the announcements. You might want to talk about these important character traits with your child at home. These are definitely qualities that will help our students be successful in life:
- August :: Respect
- September :: Responsibility
- October :: Compassion
- November :: Honesty
- December :: Acceptance
- January :: Self-discipline
- February :: Perseverance
- March :: Generosity
- April :: Friendship
- May :: Cooperation
Also, I want to remind you about the uniforms. (Don’t you think the kids look great?!) It is beginning to be colder out, and students will soon be wearing sweaters and sweatshirts in class. These need to be in the same colors as shirts and blouses: white, light blue, navy blue, or black. Jackets and coats that are taken off in the building can be any color or design.
Thank you for helping us to make this a great school year. Watch for family activities and other ways you can be involved. We love having you participate!
Sincerely,
Mary Ann Maddy
Principal
