APS Students to Attend Genocide Forum

40 Social Studies students from South Middle School will participate in the Second Annual Anti-Genocide Darfur Forum on Thursday, February 7, 2008 from 10-11:30 a.m. The forum is hosted by the Kent Denver School at 4000 E. Quincy Ave.
Students from APS and other metro districts will participate in a variety of topics, ranging from “The Rights of Children: Genocide - Past to Present” to “The 2008 Olympics: China’s Silence on the Darfur Genocide.”
They will also talk with internationally acclaimed keynote speakers Mr. Mohamed Yahya, Executive Director of Damanga Coalition for Democracy and Freedom – a Darfuri refugee; and Mr. Adam Sterling – Director, GI-Net Divestment Task Force and student activist, who prominently features in the film “Darfur Now.”
APS students will also prepare an oral and musical message to present on behalf of their school. The event is open to the public.

APS Meets with the Colorado Association of School Boards

The Aurora Public Schools Superintendent, Board of Education and Leadership Team will meet with the Colorado Association of School Boards on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. APS will update members of CASB about district successes and VISTA 2010, the APS strategic plan.
Transition Plan Applications Due by 3/3

APS Transition Plan 2009-10
At its February 7 meeting, the Board of Education voted to discontinue the Employee Transition program beginning in the 2009-10 school year. The Board also determined it would revisit the program at a future date if the budget permits.
As a reminder, applications for the 2008-09 Transition Plan are due to Human Resources no later than 4:30 p.m., Monday, March 3, 2008. If you have not finalized your decision to transition for 2008-09, it is recommended that you still submit your application in order to be considered. Transition may be rescinded as late as June 30, 2008. Applications are available on apsnet under HR Forms.

Books and materials being considered for adoption by Aurora Public Schools Board of Education will be on display for public inspection beginning Friday, February 15 and continuing through Friday, February 29, 2008. The display will be located at the Division of Instruction, Educational Services Center Building 2, 15751 East First Avenue, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Basic and supplemental materials in the following areas are being considered for adoption:
