Transition Plan Applications Due by 3/3

APS Transition Plan 2009-10

At its February 7 meeting, the Board of Education voted to discontinue the Employee Transition program beginning in the 2009-10 school year. The Board also determined it would revisit the program at a future date if the budget permits.

As a reminder, applications for the 2008-09 Transition Plan are due to Human Resources no later than 4:30 p.m., Monday, March 3, 2008. If you have not finalized your decision to transition for 2008-09, it is recommended that you still submit your application in order to be considered. Transition may be rescinded as late as June 30, 2008. Applications are available on apsnet under HR Forms.

Rose Community Foundation Grant Event

The Rose Community Foundation recently awarded APS a $378,000 grant to improve learning for second language students.

Please join Superintendent John L. Barry and the Board of Education to hear about the innovative ways APS is involving parents in their children’s education.

  • Close the learning gap and increase achievement for second language students
  • Provide professional development opportunities for staff
  • Increase parent involvement for English language learners

Iowa Elementary Hosts Barnes & Noble Bookfair

Iowa Elementary is hosting a Barnes & Noble Bookfair and Family Fun Event on March 6, 2008, from 4-7 p.m. at the Aurora City Place store located just off I-225 and Alameda.

The Snow Queen will be there handing out instant prizes, plus there will be fun family activities and you can register to win bigger prizes throughout the evening.

A percentage of purchases made at the Barnes & Noble Booksellers at Aurora City Place that evening will benefit the Iowa Elementary Library.

Vouchers will be available at the store cash registers and in the children’s area that evening.

Board Meeting and Executive Session

The APS Board of Education will meet on Thursday March 6, 2008, 4:30 p.m. at 1085 Peoria Street to discuss whether to authorize the Board President to enter into an agreement with Hope Online Charter school, as authorized by state law.

After this meeting, the Board is expected to recess into executive session for the purpose of discussing strategy about upcoming negotiations with the Aurora Education Association.
