Why Should Parents Get Involved?

  • Research shows that active parents help students stay involved and successful in school.
  • It’s a good way to stay informed about what’s going on at school.
  • You’ll have fun and make new friends!
  • Parent volunteers are the key to successful events and definately help make Columbia a great school.
  • To help raise funds needed to provide many events and support for the students and staff at Columbia.

The PTSO is an organization of parents, teachers, and students of Columbia Middle School. The objectives of the PTSO are:

  • To bring into closer relationship the family and the school so that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in educating our children.
  • To develop between educators and the general members such united efforts as will secure for every student the highest advantages in physical, academic, and social emotional education.
  • To maintain cooperative relationships with the people and organizations of the larger community.
  • To strive to encourage enthusiasm and participation among members of the Columbia Middle School community in the school’s activities.
  • To promote effective communication and understanding among parents, teachers, students and school staff.
  • To raise funds to help subsidize or provide programs and/or activities for the students, teachers and staff of Columbia Middle School.

PTSO meets from 7:00pm - 8:00pm in the Teachers Lounge. Dates are tentative and are subject to change. There are no membership dues. Everyone is welcome to attend the PTSO meetings. The meetings are the first Thursday of the month.

Advisory Accountability Committee:

The Columbia Middle School Advisory Accountability Committee is an organization of parents, teachers, and administrators that is designed to build and strengthen the accountability process. The purpose of the committee is to:

  • Represent the community point of view.
  • Make recommendations and give advice to the principal.
  • Focus on needs and concerns of the school’s community.
  • Review various components of the school program and advise the principal as to how well these meet the school and community needs.
  • Help in the development and implementation of the school action plans.
  • Serve to facilitate communications to the community and to the District Accountability Committee.

This committee meets on a monthly basis on the third Thursday of the month. Parents are welcomed to attend any of the meetings.
