School-based volunteers provide reading, writing, and homework help along with friendship to a child in a structured group environment. The children in school-based mentoring need academic help and guidance in the areas of peer relationships, good decision making, social skills, and positive self-esteem. The volunteers act as friends, listeners, and resources.
Aurora Central and Hinkley Junior Air Force ROTC students received hands-on flying experience at front Range Airport. After completing classroom flight simulator training, students flew with their instructor and spent 30 minutes behind the controls. “This was an amazing experience. I had never flown in an airplane,” Aurora Central student Martha Beltran-Gonzalez said.
Junior Achievement (JA) is the bridge connecting education and business, giving thousands of local K-12 teachers the chance to bring additional resources into the classroom and to emphasize the relevance of what they are teaching. Volunteers provide JA’s fun, interactive lesson plans and reinforce classroom curriculum.
