APS Bus Drivers, Volunteers, Participants Make Marathon a Success
This year’s Colorado Colfax Marathon owes a lot of its success to the great support and participation by APS staff members and students.
APS bus drivers provided first-class transportation to runners getting to the start of the race at Aurora Sports Park.
“I want to thank the APS transportation staff for providing courteous and professional bus service for the marathon. Just listening to the participant comments, I could tell how grateful the runners were for your services.”
- Anthony Sturges
APS Chief Operating Officer
Other APS staff members and parents also volunteered to ensure that the event “ran” without a hitch. From organizing runners at the start to handing out water and words of encouragement along the course, these volunteers woke up early on a beautiful Sunday morning to make an otherwise grueling race a “breeze” for all runners.
Of course, the runners in this marathon also included a number of APS students and staff members! Many APS students participated in the Marathon Milers program, which culminated with them running the final mile of their marathon early Saturday morning.
On Sunday, many APS staff members ran either the full marathon or the half marathon, while others ran on relay teams to complete the race. Many of these APS staff members, like Virginia Court Elementary teacher Anna Davis, ran the marathon as part of various fundraising events for kids.
Congratulations and thank you, APS staff members and students!
