Eighth Graders Explore Nation’s Capitol

Summit Academy eighth-grade students left town to discover the nation’s Capitol. More than 20 APS students took a five-day trip to view our government in action in Washington, D.C.

Students met with Colorado Congressman Ed Perlmutter and Senator Ken Salazar during their tour of the Capitol building.

“The meeting with Congressman Perlmutter was great! He sat on the floor with us and asked the students many questions. We talked about the war in Iraq and the bill that was being drafted at that time.”

The nation’s history came to life when students visited the Air and Space Museum and the Jefferson and Lincoln memorials. They also journeyed to Virginia to visit Jamestown. “It was a great experience to learn social studies and history first hand with our friends,” said Summit student Troy.

“I got to see all the stuff I’ve heard about and seen on T.V. Finally seeing it for real was amazing!”
