Aurora Public SchoolsThe Aurora Public Schools Board of Education will have three seats open this year. The board election will be held in November 2007. District staff will provide an overview of the election process at the June 19 board meeting. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the boardroom of the APS Administration Building, 1085 Peoria Street.

The APS Board of Education is a seven-member group elected to establish policies for the school district. Board members are elected at large and serve four-year terms. The board addresses the concerns of the local community while working within the framework of state and federal laws. This includes approving curricula and instructional materials and adopting the annual budget.

Board candidates run on a non-partisan basis and do not need to have education experience.

An information meeting for community members interested in running for the board will be held later in July. For additional information, please call 303-344-8060, ext. 28009 or visit www.aps.k12.co.us/boe/.
