Elkhart Staff Members Honor Community Volunteers
Elkhart Elementary reached out to their community, and their community reached right back! At the beginning of the school year, Elkhart parents decided to form a Parent Leadership Team.
The PLT reviewed the parent engagement plan, took leadership classes and developed goals for parent involvement using VISTA 2010. The team also passed a recommendation for a limited dress code for the next school year, organized an ESL class, and prepared a special meal for Teacher Appreciation Day.
“Our parent program turned out to be a great thing this year!”
- Maria-Elena Thomas
Elkhart Elementary Principal
Recently, Elkhart staff members hosted a volunteer appreciation breakfast to recognize the involvement of the parents and others in their community. More than 40 people attended the event and celebrated the common goal of student achievement.
Elkhart staff members honored community volunteers from the Aurora Mental Health Center and the Navy Operation Support Center-Denver. Elkhart parents were recognized for their continued support for the 20006-07 school year.
“Because of our active volunteers, we are able to make a difference as a community.”
- Efren Ortiz, Jr.
Elkhart Elementary Technology Facilitator
