Vassar Elementary Principal Scott Habermehl had the opportunity to experience a “Day in the Life” of APS Superintendent Barry. Habermehl was the first APS employee to participate in the “Shadow the Superintendent” program.

On May 29 at 9 a.m., Habermehl met Superintendent Barry at Side Creek Elementary, where students celebrated their achievement with a Pioneer Pride awards assembly. Barry shared his childhood goal of becoming a pilot and emphasized the importance of setting goals and improving student achievement.

At 10:15 a.m., Habermehl and Barry returned to the Highline Building for office work and Leadership Team and Cabinet meetings. Meeting topics included what APS does to engage the community to become involved in schools, how APS supports student achievement, and the Classified Job Fair. “I was impressed with how much hard work goes into every decision,” said Habermehl.

The day ended for Habermehl at 4:30 p.m.

“As others participate in this experience, it will help them see the big picture of APS and the community. It gives you a glimpse of the hard work and dedication that goes into every step of increasing student achievement.”

The “Shadow the Superintendent”Program will continue each month, with an invitation for an APS employee to spend the day with Superintendent Barry.
