APS Celebrates First Day of School
APS staff welcomed more than 32,000 students back to classes on Tuesday, August 7. It was a busy day for students and for APS Superintendent John L. Barry. Barry rode a school bus with students, served breakfast at Side Creek Elementary, and delivered his “Kick-Off” address at Hinkley High School. Aurora Mayor Ed Tauer and APS Board of Education Vice President Jeanette Carmany joined Superintendent Barry to inaugurate the new school year.
Barry encouraged staff to work together to build trust and teamwork during the 2007-08 school year. He also invited students, parents, staff and community members to make a difference for students by accepting new challenges for the school year.
