APS Brings Diverse Communities Together
The diversity of Aurora Public Schools will take center stage when Hispanic leaders share their success stories with the community. APS is proud to present a special forum called “Hope, Education and Success.” The event will bring together keynote speakers and panelists to talk about what makes APS so unique.
“This forum will educate our diverse staff, students and families about the richness and uniqueness of our different cultures.”
- Erle Swanson
APS Coordinator of Equity, Diversity, Family and Community Engagement.
The keynote speakers will be Univision Senior News Anchor and Producer Rodolfo José Cárdenas and Dr. Bárbara Medina, Director of English Language Acquisition with the Colorado Department of Education (pictured at left).
The goal of the event is to strengthen collaboration with parents to increase learning for their children. Community involvement is the key to the success of students.
The forum will include a panel discussion with APS staff members and a number of community members. Clara Pérez Méndez, President of Puentes Culturales, will be part of the discussion. Puentes Culturales is a group that helps bridge gaps between cultures.
“If you have dreams, passion and can speak two or more languages, you can market your expertise. There is a need for those services to help build bridges between cultures.”
- Clara Pérez Méndez
President of Puentes Culturales
The forum will be presented in English. Spanish interpretation will be provided.
The event will also include food and entertainment by Pepe and Pepita, the clowns.
