PACEsetter: Quizno’s VP Clyde Rucker Gives Back to APS
Former APS graduate Clyde Rucker recently visited Gateway High School to encourage students and give back to his community. Rucker, a 1981 graduate of Gateway is now the Executive Vice President of the Quizno’s Restaurant chain. Rucker also attended Aurora Hills and Mrachek middle schools.
In a packed Gateway auditorium, Rucker shared his high school experiences with the senior class. His message was honest.
“I was an average student in high school. My focus was to be popular. But persistence and determination to get into college and make something of myself paid off.”

Rucker told students that he struggled to get into college and that he even had to take the SAT twice.
Rucker also spoke about the importance of math and science in preparing for college.
“Take as many math and science courses now in high school as you can so you can be successful when you go to college.”

Rucker went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Masters of Science degree from Central Michigan University. His path to becoming Quizno’s Vice President started with service in the U.S. Army and continued with corporate-level work in the fast-food industry.
As executive vice president and chief administrative officer for Quizno’s, Rucker is responsible for managing communications, human resources, real estate and administrative functions. He also leads new programs for diversity inclusion, corporate relations and community affairs.
To support students at Gateway, Rucker established a $5,000 scholarship fund. He also donated Quizno’s gift cards to the Gateway Positive Behavior Support Program.
