P.E. Teachers Bring Technology to Gym

Written by the APS Communication Department @ 9:54 am Print This Story Print This Story

Walk into any APS physical education class and you’re likely to see ipods, digital cameras and PlayStation dance pads as much as kickballs and badminton rackets.

Physical education teachers in APS have been integrating technology into the classroom as a way to increase student interest and to track student fitness. They use ipods and microphones to move students with music, pdas and Fitnessgrams to track student progress, and cameras and camcorders to record and show proper athletic moves. Students even compete in “In the Groove” dance pad contests as an alternative to running for aerobic fitness.

” As part of the new P.E. curriculum in APS, we have been sharing innovative ways of using technology in the gym with all of our physical education teachers. The response has been tremendous. Teachers are finding new ways to motivate students and track their fitness, and students ‘get a kick’ out of playing with technology in their P.E. classes.”
