APS Home to Colorado Teacher of the Year
The teachers of Aurora Public Schools are some of the best. In fact, Wal-Mart recognized Christine Sundberg as the best teacher in all of Colorado.
A surprise ceremony on October 9 honored Sundberg as the Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year for Colorado. Sundberg teaches juniors and seniors at Hinkley High School. In her honor, Hinkley received a $10,000 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation.
Sundberg teaches several International Baccalaureate World History classes, an African Studies class and a U.S. History class. She helped organize the Landmine Task Force that has raised more than $31,000 for the United Nations Landmine Initiative, through the Adopt-a-Minefield campaign.
“Academic success, while a large portion of our goal, cannot be our sole focus. Public schools have the responsibility of developing and nurturing caring students who are aware of the world, who know how to think and who can assess situations from a variety of perspectives.”
