Addressing Hispanic issues and supporting the Latino community are top priorities for Rangeview High School senior Monique Rodriguez. After writing an essay on what public service means to her, the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators selected Rodriguez as Colorado’s recipient of the $1,500 John S. Martinez Comcast Scholarship. She now has the opportunity to serve as an intern in the office of a NHCSL state legislator.

NHCSL is a national association of Hispanic state legislators who work to design and implement policies and procedures that will impact the quality of life for Hispanic community members.

The 18-year-old is already making a difference in her community. She is active in the League of United Latin Americans Club, a group of students committed to showcasing the Latino culture to the community. Rodriguez is also a member of Health Occupations Students of America at Pickens Technical College. She hopes to become a nurse to continue satisfying her passion for helping others.
