More than 100 high school choir students showcased their talent in the first ever Aurora Public School Choral Festival held at Hinkley High School. Aurora Public Schools’ vocal music directors “picked up the PACE” and organized this musical performance for middle school choir students.
High school choirs sang a variety of musical numbers including “Shine on Me” and the Norah Jones song “Don’t Know Why?” They also performed an amazing duet of “Listen” from the movie, Dreamgirls, and “All That Jazz” from the Broadway play, Chicago.
“I hope that these performances inspire younger students. I hope they want to get on stage and perform. Maybe students watching will know that when they are in high school they will have a chance to make new friends in choir and have new experiences.”

Middle school students cheered and clapped for the high school performers. “This shows us how high school choirs are different. If we want to be in a high school choir we need to practice,” said Columbia student Kayla.
Through collaboration between APS schools, the Choral Festival organizers hope to strengthen community performing arts. “I’d like to thank the APS Board of Education and Superintendent Barry for their support of this event. I am also grateful to Lorraine Trundell and everyone at the Transportation Department for helping bring our students together for this special event,” said Gateway Vocal Music Director John Richard.
“I think the groups are really cool. It makes me want to do well so I can be in choir in high school, too.”
