Verizon Volunteers Inspire Peoria Students

Written by the APS Communication Department @ 2:03 pm Print This Story Print This Story

verizon peoria2Verizon Business is partnering with Peoria Elementary School in support of the Aurora Public Schools vision to graduate every student with the choice to attend college without remediation. Volunteers from the company visited the school along with Jamar Campbell, winner of the Verizon Business Ron Brown Scholarship. He told students to “be strong, stay positive and go to college.”

Peoria staff will arrange for them to visit a college campus in order to visualize their college dreams. Excitement filled the air when every student was given a copy of the book “I Have Risen,” a collection of inspirational essays written by Ron Brown Scholars who’ve overcome great challenges.

Volunteers encouraged students to give back to the community and will give students certificates when they do so in four different ways. Volunteer Mike Jones expressed that his visit to Peoria was a “life altering experience.”
