Happy Thanksgiving Message

Written by the APS Communication Department @ 4:13 pm Print This Story Print This Story

APS Teammates,

My wife Ellen and I want to wish you all the best of Thanksgivings. During this holiday season we need to count our blessings. I know I am grateful for my Family: my wife, my 5 kids, one grandson and one grand-baby on the way. I am also grateful that you all have afforded me the privilege and honor of being the Superintendent of APS and working with the great APS team for the benefit of our students.

We are truly on a transformational path that would rival any in the country for one purpose and one purpose only: accelerating student achievement so our kids can meet the vision of graduating with the choice to attend college without remediation. Our challenges are many and I am fully cognizant of the many initiatives we have asked all of you to take on in VISTA 2010. I am proud of what I have seen every day in how we all are working together to meet the vision and goals we have set out under the leadership of our Board of Education.

Whether our kids have excellent grades or they are “kids of promise” (not kids at risk), we provide a sanctuary of instruction where mistakes can be made, knowledge can be acquired and character can be developed. What you all do everyday is amazing and we need to be grateful for all that contribute to this noble profession of learning–everyone counts, no one is invisible and everyone can make it better than they found it for our kids. Give thanks and keep those expectations high for all our students for they are our future.

Please enjoy your time off and take care of yourself and your Families. Be safe because we need each and everyone of you back on Monday to continue our great journey together.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Warm regards,

John and Ellen Barry
