CollegeInvest recently recognized an Aurora Central High School employee as the October Counselor of the Month. Paul Glennon was nominated for the award by parents. Glennon is known for organizing and hosting a career college fair for students.
“My goal is to help kids find their direction in lives. I help them unblock the negative things going on in their lives.”
- Paul Glennon
Aurora Central H.S. counselor
The Colorado Council on High School/College Relations, CollegeInvest and Channel 7 partner together to honor outstanding high school counselors. The Counselor of the Month program is designed to encourage students, parents, teachers and others to nominate their favorite high school counselor to receive the award. Nominations for the award are submitted on the Channel 7 Website and turned over to a committee consisting of college admissions and high school counselors for final determination.
Nominations are based on:
- Community involvement
- Initiating a college prep program
- Building relationships with the higher education community
- Leadership in education based organizations
- Participation in high school activities/sponsorship of programs
- Number of years as a counselor
The nomination read:
“This counselor goes the 10th mile to make sure students are well prepared to go on to a higher education or be prepared to go out to work when they leave high school. He does this by putting on a career fair every year where he has different colleges represented as well as some company employers. Some employers will bring applications with them. He works hard to make the transition from high school to real life easier for all students.”
As Counselor of the Month, Glennon is eligible for the Counselor of the Year award, which carries a $1,000 professional development award. Before becoming a counselor, Glennon served as an eighth grade teacher.
