Denver Nuggets Run Drills with APS Students
Denver Nuggets players Eduardo Najera, Chucky Atkins and others from the team recently brought their A-game to Aurora Central High School. They shot hoops, taught defensive moves and played basketball with more than 150 APS students. Students participated in this event as part of the Aurora Public School Education Foundation student rewards program, which is based on attendance, citizenship and scholarship.
“I liked shooting hoops with the players,” said Chris, a Century Elementary first grader. “They are really big!”
Nuggets players and assistant coaches talked about the importance of a good education. Students received goody bags filled with Nuggets memorabilia and tickets to a Nuggets game.
“The greatest benefit the students receive by participating in this event is the chance of a lifetime to play ball with professional athletes who have excelled on and off the court. This year, students were able to ask questions of the Denver Nuggets regarding their educational backgrounds and how they became successful in their careers. The Nuggets players and Community Ambassadors stressed the importance of a good education in order to be successful.”
