West M.S. Earns Gold Hard Hat AwardWest Middle School has earned a Gold Hard Hat Award in the Silver Award category as one of the best Colorado construction projects of 2007. Colorado Construction Magazine recognized the project as an outstanding restoration/renovation.

The bond-funded project, completed earlier this year, included a complete remodel of the existing West Middle School and construction of a new entrance addition to house classrooms, a media center, a cafeteria/kitchen and administration offices. The project also preserved the front portion of the historic William Smith Building, the district’s first high school, built in 1932.

The remodel also created a visible main entry and easier access to all parts of the campus by linking the older school buildings with the new addition.

Project architect Klipp general contractor Haselden Construction collaborated on the remodel.

The annual Gold Hard Hat Awards is a competition to select the best projects completed by Colorado construction firms. Judging is done by a panel of industry experts and is based on design quality and innovation, craftsmanship, the project’s contribution to the community and the industry, solution of unique design and construction challenges, and overall excellence.
