Students at Murphy Creek K-8 recently took their artistic talent out of art teacher Emilia Markovich’s classroom and into the community.

The Aurora Fire Department at Station 15 held a logo design contest for the firehouse. The firefighters chose winning designs for students Payton DeVencenty, Mohammed Sumbunu, Evan Chandler and Alex Niforatos. They then combined the four designs to create the final logo that will be printed on T- shirts and other firefighting gear.

Lieutenant Jodi Nolet and the firefighters made lunch for Markovich and the winning students. They also treated them to a tour of the firehouse.

“This contest gave students a great way to connect with the community through an art project. They worked as designers and created a logo for their own neighborhood firehouse. The students had a great time at the fire station and enjoyed lunch with the firefighters too.”
