Peterson selected Sundberg for the award based on her valuable contributions to her school, her students and the teaching profession. Sundberg recently earned a $10,000 grant for Hinkley High School as the 2007 Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year for Colorado. Sundberg teaches several International Baccalaureate World History classes, an African Studies class and a U.S. History class.

Sundberg also helped organize the Landmine Task Force that has raised more than $31,000 for the United Nations Landmine Initiative and the Adopt-a-Minefield campaign.

“The City of Aurora is pleased to have exceptional teachers like Christine Sundberg. They are the most valuable resource for our students’ futures.”
- Renie Peterson
