Community Report Letter 2008
The Board of Education and I are pleased to present this community report. When reading this report, we believe you will find that we are indeed implementing our strategic plan VISTA 2010 – Visionary Instruction Shaping the Transformation of Aurora Public Schools – and that our students and staff are setting the PACE for excellence.

We are transforming APS with a variety of innovations, including the following.
- We are opening our first Pilot School in 2008. Pilot Schools are innovative public schools given autonomy and maximum control over their resources in exchange for increased accountability.
- The Middle Years and International Baccalaureate programs offer middle and high school students unique approaches to learning. These programs at Aurora Hills Middle School and Hinkley High School emphasize intellectual rigor and high academic standards.
- The new Aurora Quest K-8, which opens in 2008, will serve students from Aurora Quest and Summit academies, as well as an additional 300 advanced and gifted/talented students. Since it opened in 1999, Aurora Quest has been rated excellent by the Colorado Department of Education.
- William Smith is a small high school that provides an outstanding education, which integrates art and technology into core academic classes.

If you would like to receive regular APS updates, please sign up for Community Connection, our online newsletter, at www.aps.k12.co.us/communications/connection .
We invite you to stay involved in our schools. Drop by and see how our students take pride in their schoolwork, sports, activities and in their improved school buildings thanks to the bond.
We continue to work hard as we aim for our vision of graduating every student with the choice to go to college without remediation.
Thank you for your support!
