BarrywithkidoncompSuperintendent John L. Barry was recently named Tech-Savvy Superintendent of the Year by eSchool News. Barry is one of ten superintendents across the nation to earn the honor this year.

eSchool News is a digital solutions company that serves the education technology industry. The company launched its annual Tech-Savvy Superintendent Awards program in 2001 to honor superintendents throughout the nation who are effectively embracing technology as a tool for leadership and learning.

Under Barry’s leadership, APS has implemented a variety of technology improvements including:

  • digital classrooms with interactive white boards, projectors, visualizers, laptops, and personal response systems
  • chatroom technology for staff, student and community dialogue
  • Discovery One Place, an online resource, that provides teachers and students limitless access to key educational resources
  • MySpanishTeacher.com, an online course designed especially for school staff to learn conversational Spanish
  • teleconferences and Webinars to more effectively conduct staff meetings
  • ConnectEd, a state-of-the-art communication system that enables APS to send telephone and e-mail messages to all APS families and staff in about an hour

Congratulations, Superintendent Barry!
