Barry Named Tech-Savvy Superintendent of the Year
Superintendent John L. Barry was recently named Tech-Savvy Superintendent of the Year by eSchool News. Barry is one of ten superintendents across the nation to earn the honor this year.
eSchool News is a digital solutions company that serves the education technology industry. The company launched its annual Tech-Savvy Superintendent Awards program in 2001 to honor superintendents throughout the nation who are effectively embracing technology as a tool for leadership and learning.
Under Barry’s leadership, APS has implemented a variety of technology improvements including:
- digital classrooms with interactive white boards, projectors, visualizers, laptops, and personal response systems
- chatroom technology for staff, student and community dialogue
- Discovery One Place, an online resource, that provides teachers and students limitless access to key educational resources
- MySpanishTeacher.com, an online course designed especially for school staff to learn conversational Spanish
- teleconferences and Webinars to more effectively conduct staff meetings
- ConnectEd, a state-of-the-art communication system that enables APS to send telephone and e-mail messages to all APS families and staff in about an hour
