2008 0214DAR0117 (2)The Toll Gate Creek Daughters of the American Revolution recently honored Gateway student Matthew Scott and Hinkley student Elizabeth Roberts as good citizens at its awards ceremony. School staff members nominated the Scott and Roberts for their community service and leadership. The students were also selected based on outstanding essay entries.

DAR also honored Century Elementary School volunteer Rose Mainero for her many years of support for students. When Century Elementary opened its doors in 1985, Rose Mainero, affectionately known as “Grandma Rose,” was one of the first school volunteers to sign up. More than 20 years later, 91 year-old Mainero still volunteers at Century nearly every day.

2008 0214DAR0111 (2)Hinkley High School teacher Christine Sundberg was honored as the DAR Colorado Outstanding Teacher of American History. Sundberg will now compete at the national level. Sundberg has already earned national and international teaching awards.

The DAR, founded in 1890, is a volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children.
