rhs mathcafeOf the eight largest school districts in Colorado, Aurora Public Schools is one of the only districts to have 100 percent Highly Qualified teachers in all of its comprehensive high schools.

With more than 32,000 students, APS is the sixth largest district in the state. According to a recent Colorado Department of Education report, all four of its comprehensive high schools have teachers who meet the criteria for Highly Qualified educators.

In accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act, Colorado defines Highly Qualified educators as teachers who are fully licensed, hold at least a Bachelor’s degree, and are able to demonstrate subject matter competency in all core academic areas in which they are assigned.

“The APS Human Resources staff and principals work diligently to hire highly qualified and exceptionally skilled teachers and to support current staff as they complete professional learning goals. Our primary goal is to offer the highest level of instruction resulting in increased learning for our students.”
- Kari Allen
APS Chief Personnel Officer
