APS Celebrates Read Across America Day
More than 45 million people around the country participated in the 11th annual Read Across America Day, celebrated on March 3.
In Aurora, guest readers visited Aurora Public Schools classrooms, where they read from their favorite Dr. Seuss books, as a part of the APS ‘Readers are Leaders’ program. Aurora City Council member Molly Markert, Aurora Police Department Captain Jerry Hinkle, APS board members Jeannette Carmany, Mary Lewis, Amy Prince, Peter Cukale and Jane Barber, and APS staff members shared their love for reading with students in classrooms across the district.
March 3 honors ‘The Cat in The Hat’ creator, Ted Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss, who wrote the book that challenges, entertains and inspires a lifetime of reading. The book has sold millions of copies worldwide and continues to be a favorite with children everywhere.
