Iowa Fifth Graders Collect Funds for African Students and Families
Fifth graders at Iowa Elementary school raised more than $100 for the Lahash program. Lahash is a nonprofit, grassroots organization that partners with, sustains, supports and visits orphanages, AIDS clinics, schools, leper colonies, and widows in east African countries.
The students also wrote letters to the members of the Lahash team and to the students at the Kibera school in Nairobi, Kenya. Using an Internet phone service known as Skype, students also talked with Lahash team members and Kenyan students.
“For these students, who don’t have much in the first place, their generosity was amazing! Some gave from money they worked hard to get while some sold someĀ of their belongings to raise money. It’s great to see our students reaching out, learning about others around the world and helping their global neighbors.”
