Technology Fair Highlights Future Digital Mavericks
Lights…Cameras…Computers…Action! Today an APS student, tomorrow the next George Lucas, Steven Spielberg or Bill Gates!
Aurora Public Schools and the Department of Instructional Technology held the district’s First Annual Technology Learning Fair on April 17th at Hinkley High School. Students from schools across APS demonstrated how they are learning 21st-century skills by creating their own digital media and computer programs, including movies and podcasts.
APS Technology Teachers Shannon Wentworth and Gwynn Moore coordinated the event, and APS staff and Aurora community members judged the projects, including APS Board Members Matt Cook and Amy Prince.
“Our Technology Learning Fair was very similar to a science fair,” said Wentworth. “Students completed special projects that use technology in creative ways, and then gathered to share what they learned.”
“The fair was also a great opportunity for students, staff members, parents and the Aurora community to see the kind of successful learning students and teachers can accomplish utilizing technology,” added Moore.
After the public and judges viewed all the projects, the fair ended with Superintendent John L. Barry and judges handing out awards in a variety of technology categories, from multimedia and podcasts to digital art and computer programming.
“I thought that this Tech Fair was a great way to show all the exciting things we are doing and learning with computers, digital cameras and camcorders every day in our schools.”
