APS Students “Buff Up” for College

Superintendent John L. Barry has partnered with Chancellor G.P. “Bud” Peterson to offer a new VISTA/CU-Boulder Scholarship to APS students. The scholarship supports VISTA 2010, the APS strategic plan.

Nine APS students were chosen this year for the $20,000 scholarship. It is available to students attending Aurora Central, Gateway, Hinkley, Rangeview, and William Smith High Schools, as well as Pickens Technical College.

The scholarship seeks to reward entering CU-Boulder freshmen who demonstrate academic excellence, who show a commitment to the principles of the Colorado Creed, and who will contribute to the talent and diversity of the CU-Boulder campus. The Colorado Creed is a set of principles followed by CU-Boulder students. It was created by a committee of students and is based on upholding strong values, making the right decisions, and being responsible for those decisions. To read more about the Colorado Creed, visit www.colorado.edu/creed.

The $20,000 scholarship will be distributed over a four-year period ($5,000 each year). Students must have a 3.0 high school GPA to be eligible for consideration.
