APS students are keeping the peace at Yale Elementary. Fifth graders participated in the Peacemaker program during the 2007-08 school year. The students serve as school and activity leaders. During recess, the Peacemakers lead the younger students in physical activities such as jumping rope and playing basketball.
There are 28 Peacemakers at Yale. Since they started the playground activities, disciplinary referrals to the office during lunch time dropped from 32 to 15!
The Peacemakers were recently honored at a special ceremony. A representative from the Aurora Police Department handed out certificates and lanyards recognizing the students as Peacemakers.
