LITERACY BOOKS MADE INTO MOVIES
Literacy takes on a new look at APS as books are made into movies by students. The books are part of the Mondo Reading Program - curriculum that helps teachers assess students to determine starting points for teaching and learning.
This year, a group of students is making the literacy books into movies. The pictures from the books are scanned into a computer. Students then use Windows Movie Maker to record audio for the story and turn the book into a movie. The books will be posted on the Web with access for all APS teachers.
Media can see the students in action on Wednesday, June 11 at 1 p.m. The group will be recording and producing the books at that time.
An important component of Mondo is the pacing guide that allows teachers to identify where a student is and where a student should be. Mondo also includes books and lesson plans. The program was piloted at APS during the 2006-07 school year.
