western dairy associationAPS recently earned a $4,000 grant from the Western Dairy Association’s “Going Green New Look of School Milk” to assist with the district’s recycling program.

In April 2008, Maintenance and Operations’ APS for Conservation of Energy Program, in conjuction with APS Nutrition Services, asked schools to expand their recycling programs to include the plastic milk bottles used for breakfast and lunch. Eight schools answered the call to action, and with help from the WDA grant, these schools will divert nearly 1,000,000 plastic milk bottles from the landfill to the recycling plant this coming school year.

The eight APS schools participating in the milk bottle recycling program include:

  • Altura Elementary
  • Century Elementary
  • Clyde Miller Elementary
  • Kenton Elementary
  • Park Lane Elementary
  • Tollgate Elementary
  • West Middle School
  • Wheeling Elementary

Congratulations to the students and staff members who are making a difference with recycling!
