Literacy Books Made Into Movies
Literacy is taking on a new look at APS as books are made into movies by students. The books are part of the Mondo Reading Program - curriculum that helps teachers assess students to determine starting points for teaching and learning.
A select group of students made 59 literacy books into movies. The pictures from the books were scanned into a computer. Students then used Windows Movie Maker to record audio for the story and turn the book into a movie. The books will eventually be posted on the Web with access for all APS teachers. Audio was recorded for an additional 56 books.
An important component of Mondo is the pacing guide that allows teachers to identify where a student is and where a student should be. Mondo also includes books and lesson plans. The program was piloted at APS during the 2006-07 school year.
