Linemen Battle in Hog Wars

Written by the APS Communication Department @ 10:20 am Print This Story Print This Story

DSC 0024High school football linemen battled it out at Rangeview High School during the 2008 Raiders City Hog Wars. For the fourth straight year, APS dominated the competition.

Teams from Gateway High School, Rangeview High School and other Aurora schools tested their strength and endurance in five areas:

  • Farmer’s Walk
  • Tire Flip
  • Log Press
  • Vehicle Pull
  • Tug-o-War

These events take serious muscle. In the Farmer’s Walk, each member of the five-man team carried two 140-pound tanks as far as possible. The Tire Flip was a relay involving a 500-pound tractor tire. And the Log Press involves lifting a 125-pound makeshift “log.”

“This is a fun day for the linemen where they get to shine. In reality, football games are won and lost by the linemen,” said Rangeview football coach Dave Gonzales.

For the fourth straight year, Rangeview High School took top honors and received the Hog Wars traveling trophy. Second place went to Gateway High School.
