East Teachers Go Door-to-Door to Visit Parents

East Staff Visit StudentsInstead of students taking the bus to school, East Middle School teachers recently rode the bus to visit families at their homes.

As a kick-off to the new school year, East staff members went door-to-door over the weekend to welcome students and parents to school, provide them with timely and important information, and to gather their ideas and feedback.

“Students faces were priceless as teachers arrived at their front door. Our idea to visit the community was born from our desire to become more innovative in our approach to establishing stronger relationships among families and our school with staff, teachers, students, parents and our broader community.”
- Fred Quinonez
East M.S. Principal

In addition to welcoming them to the East Middle School community, staff members answered parents’ questions and encouraged them to volunteer at their child’s school. “We collected a list of volunteers who may not have offered to volunteer if we did not reach out and make this first step,” said Quinonez.

Staff members also learned a lot about their students, parents and the community through this process. “We learned a lot about where our kids come from and go home to everyday, and we gained insight on how parents perceive our school, our role as educators and how they are valued as part of their child’s educational process,” added Quinonez.
