Why Do High School Students Need to Take Six Classes in APS?

The funding for staffing allocations, teaching assignments and the creation of each APS building’s master schedule is determined by the number of full time students at each school. These budget decisions are made each spring, prior to the start of the next school year.

In order to be considered full time by the Colorado Department of Education, a student must be enrolled in 6 classes. This is standard for all high schools in our disrict.

If APS schedules a student in fewer than 6 classes, the district receives only half the funding from the state for the student.

As a result, APS must have all high school students in 6 classes in order to ensure that we have the funding to support the comprehensive academic program at our school.
