Jamaica Grand OpeningMore than 200 parents, staff and community members attended the opening of the Jamaica Child Development Center on August 21. The center joins the APS Child Development Center on Laredo Street as the second school dedicated solely to preschool students.

The center offers 250 children the opportunity to attend the Colorado Preschool Program, which is funded by the Colorado Department of Education. The program is designed for three and four-year old children with a variety of at-risk factors.

The district converted the building that was previously Jamaica Elementary School to a preschool with bond funds approved by voters in 2002. The building improvements include new playground equipment, remodeled bathrooms and additional staff and visitor parking. In addition, the center has brand new furniture and learning materials tailored to preschool age children.
