Lyn Knoll Students Learn About Acceptance and Free Principal from Jail
Students at Lyn Knoll Elementary came together recently to learn more about acceptance. APS Adaptive P.E. teacher Jody Megill and the Denver Office of Disability Rights brought speakers to the school to teach the students about people with disabilities.
Lyn Knoll students learned from Ms. Megill about the summer wheelchair camp that takes place in APS every summer, providing sporting opportunities to students and adults in wheelchairs from all over Colorado.
Speakers from the Denver Office of Disability Rights also showed students how individuals live happily whether they are in wheelchairs or are blind or hard of hearing. The speakers explained how their service dogs help them in their home and help them get around when they are out in the community.
To support individuals with disabilities, students and families at Lyn Knoll are donating their change to muscular dystrophy as part of the “Locked Up for MDA” program. To “free” Lyn Knoll principal Andrea Tucker from “jail,” the school is trying to raise $1300. The donations will help send children with muscular dystrophy to summer camp.
