APS Libraries Sponsors Jumpstart’s Read for the Record
The Jumpstart program Read for the Record is one of several programs Library Services will be promoting this year. We have looked for ways the library program can support what happens in the classroom and make sure that the time students spend in the library is meaningful. This project focuses on early childhood education.
Library Services has purchased a special edition of Corduroy for each elementary and the early childhood education center. Thanks to the Pearson Foundation, all proceeds from this book purchase go to support Jumpstart’s year-long literacy program for preschool children in low-income communities. In the book is a postcard for the reader to fill out and send back. Hanna Andersson Clothing will donate $1.00 to the cause for every registered participant.
The readers do not have to be library staff, they can be teachers, parents or guest readers.
There will be day-long events starting Oct. 2, including a report by Matt Lauer on the Today Show.
