2007-08 AYP REPORT FINDS GAINS
AT APS ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
APS elementary schools saw gains in 16 of 18 proficiency targets in the latest AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) report. Like many large districts, APS fell short of performance goals set by the federal No Child Left Behind Act. CSAP results, graduation rates and other factors determine AYP.
Aurora Public Schools met 116 of 150 targets, or 77%. That compares to 80% last year. The greatest progress was seen at the elementary school level. Other increases also look promising to district officials.
Here is a breakdown of the APS findings:
APS district
- 2007-08 - met 77% of the targets
- 2006-07 - met 80% of the targets
APS elementary schools
- 2007-08 - met 82% of the targets
- 2006-07 - met 76% of the targets
APS middle schools
- 2007-08 - met 74% of the targets
- 2006-07 - met 87% of the targets
APS high schools
- 2007-08 - met 76% of the targets
- 2006-07 - met 76% of the targets
VISTA 2010, the APS strategic plan, outlines key strategies for improving student achievement. Revised pacing guides help teachers determine what students should be taught in order to reach grade level standards. Revised interim assessments provide teachers with information about student progress toward reaching grade level standards.
