Hinkley High School Nets New Technology
Hundreds of Hinkley students are learning with 21st Century classroom technology, thanks to a $137,000 technology grant awarded to teachers in three learning communities.
The grant funded interactive Promethean “white boards,” sound systems and microphones for 25 classrooms. The system allows teachers to access multiple resources via computer and incorporate graphics, sound and video into their class presentations.
“The white board system is a tremendous tool for teaching. It gives me instant feedback on what my students know and how I can help them. It increases student involvement in learning which should lead to increased achievement.”
- Melissa Brysh
Hinkley teacher
The grant from the Morgridge Family Foundation was part of a $1.3 million gift of interactive technology toolkits to 17 Colorado districts, charter and private schools. To earn the funding, Hinkley teachers competed with more than 1,000 educators through an application process last spring.
The APS Instructional Technology Department is helping teachers use the new systems by providing training classes, individual consultation and online resources. To learn more about available technology training and resources, go to apscms.net/instruct_tech/resources/promethean.
“I like the new technology because it’s more visual, and you’re not just listening to the teacher talk. The clickers make it easier to participate in class.”
- José, Hinkley student

Activ Expressions response systems-or clickers-make learning more interactive by giving students the opportunity to respond to questions or exercises.
