WILLIAM SMITH HIGH SCHOOL TO HOST
STUDENT SHOWCASE AND FUNDRAISER

William Smith High School will host its first Student Showcase of the academic year, on Thursday, October 23, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the school, located at 400 Airport Blvd. in Aurora. The event will also serve as an open house for community members interested in learning more about the school or becoming involved in the exciting changes happening at WSHS.

This is the first year that WSHS is recognized as a “pilot” school, which translates to innovation in education. While still part of the Aurora Public School district and enjoying the same benefits as a traditional public school, the administration at William Smith is able to operate with more autonomy, allowing for new approaches in designing and teaching curriculum. William Smith has the added bonus of being a school of Expeditionary Learning, which takes students on educational journeys-giving real-world meaning to the subjects they study in the classroom, and in the community as they participate in field excursions and interact with working professionals.

“It is very exciting to witness what can be accomplished by an empowered group of educators focused on helping students achieve great results. We are looking forward to this first round of presentations by our students as they showcase the excellent work they have accomplished so far this year,” said Jane Shirley William Smith High School Principal.

Close to 200 students, family members, administrators and community members are expected to attend the event. Food has been donated by Jason’s Deli, TGI Friday’s, BJ’s Restaurant and the Colorado Catering Company, and will be available for sale at a nominal fee to assist with funding the unique programs which make William Smith a one-of-a-kind institution.

  • 5:00 p.m. - 5:45 p.m. : Food from local vendors and school tour (Food coupons will be available for purchase at the door)
  • 5:45 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. : WSHS video and student showcase
