APS Hosts Earth Aid Event

Earth Aid PosterAPS high school students, community members and conservation-minded organizations will come together to share strategies to help the planet on Thursday, Nov. 20. “Earth Aid” will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Aurora Central High School Commons.

Featured guest speakers are Bob Noun, Executive Director of Communications & External Affairs for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Karen Hancock, Environmental Program Supervisor, City of Aurora. APS Superintendent John Barry and Energy Consultant Bo Bacon will discuss how APS is taking a lead with energy conservation efforts across the district. Former NBA player Ervin Johnson will also be on hand to sign autographs.

The event will also feature conservation exhibits by APS Environmental Club students, representing Aurora Central, Gateway, Hinkley and Rangeview high schools. Information booths will showcase products and services from local businesses and organizations.

Community sponsors include City of Aurora, Bennett’s Barbecue, Brunswick Zone, Chipotle, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, the Environmental Protection Agency, King Soopers, Noodles & Company, Safeway, Smart Energy Living Alliance, and Wal-mart/Sam’s Club, Xcel Energy, and the Zambia Soap Company.
