Update on APS Lockdown on Thursday, Nov 13

Written by the APS Communication Department @ 4:00 pm Print This Story Print This Story

APS Teammates,

As you may have seen on the news today, there was a shooting that required APS to lock down a number of our schools. As always, our first priority is the safety and security of our students and personnel. As a result, we had to hold hundreds of kids in their schools for hours after their normal release. This was handled by the staffs of Boston, Kenton, Crawford and West in a truly professional manner that made us all proud. Principals and Secretaries at these schools did a stellar job and they should commend their teammates on a job well done. The Incident Response Team, APS Security, Communications Services, Help Desk Technician and Transportation really showed how a team can operate in a tight situation.

Once again, the superb partnership with the APD was demonstrated. We were connected throughout the events today by telecon and webinar so the APD could see where our buses were and the information we gathered on our students.

Please extend my sincere thanks to all involved staffs for the outstanding job they did through today’s lock down. The team work they demonstrated was commendable.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the officer’s family who was killed today.

John L. Barry, Superintendent
