APS Athletics Update: Wrestling, Basketball and College Signings
Out of the eight qualifiers APS sent to State Wrestling, two students came away with medals. Gateway High School athletes Justin Freeman (4th @ 152 lbs.) and Brent Willis (6th @ 145 lbs.) both earned honors. This is a tremendous accomplishment in a tournament that is loaded with talent.
This week begins the State Basketball Tournament. Gateway boys and girls, along with Aurora Central’s boy’s team, made the field of 48 teams. Gateway boys (Jeff Sweet, coach) earned a #3 seed in the RW Truscott Region, while Aurora Central (Ian Calvert, coach) earned the #4 seed in the Ray C. Ball Region. Both teams will get a bye when the tournament begins this Thursday night and will host a game Saturday, Feb.28. Gateway will tip-off at 7:00 p.m. and AC at 6:00 p.m.
Gateway girls (Audrey Allen, coach) earned the #7 seed in the Carol Callan Region and will host Sand Creek this Wednesday night @ 7p.m.
Colleges Sign Two Rangeview High School Athletes

Rangeview had two athletes sign on National College signing day this year. In fact, they are both female soccer players. Rangeview has consistently had student athletes every year sign for scholarships in college from the girls soccer program.
Tori Hepburn
- senior, signed with Northern State University in Aberdeen South Dakota, the Wolves
- Tori has a gpa of 4.396 and will give a speech at graduation for finishing in the top ten, #8 out of 515
Hayley Renko
- senior, signed with Metropolitan State College, Denver, Colorado, the Roadrunners
- Hayley’s sister Nicole Renko also plays for Metro!
