APS Reduces Electricity Consumption

Written by the APS Communication Department @ 4:10 pm Print This Story Print This Story

APS Reduces Electricity ConsumptionAPS achieved a 7.4% reduction in electricity consumption during the first half of the 2008-09 school year compared with the same period in 2007-08, as measured in kilowatt hours of electricity per square foot. A Quarterly Electricity Usage Report can be found by visiting the APS Energy Conservation Website.

The expense for electricity alone, not including other key services such as natural gas, water and sewer, will exceed $4 million dollars this year. The 7.4% reduction has saved APS nearly $400,000 in operating costs. This is a positive step towards achieving our goal of reducing energy costs by 10%.

“The 10% reduction goal is attainable and we ask that each member of our community do their part in helping reduce waste,” said Tim “Bo” Bacon, APS Energy Consultant. “Your cooperation with controlling the use of lighting, personal appliances and office equipment will produce significant savings.”

Staff members can download and distribute an energy saving tips poster for their schools or departments.

APS energy and resource conservation efforts are beginning to pay off,  thanks to the hard work, dedication and momentum of the APS community. The APS Maintenance and Operations Department will honor conservation leaders during upcoming quarterly awards ceremonies.

Thank you for your support and attention to the importance of energy conservation, and please contact Bo Bacon at tpbacon@aps.k12.co.us with ideas, suggestions or questions.
