Hinkley Boettcher ScholarFebruary 2009 will always hold a special memory for Hinkley High School senior Natalie Nicholls. That’s when Nicholls learned that she had earned the prestigious Boettcher Foundation Scholarship. “My mom and I were so excited. We ran around the house screaming,” Nicholls said.

To be selected for the Boettcher Scholarship, students must demonstrate superior academic achievement, a commitment to school and community activities, and strength of character. The scholarship covers virtually all college expenses for recipients who attend college in Colorado. More than 1,000 high school students applied for the scholarship. Nicholls is one of only 40 winners.

Nicholls has been an APS student since the first grade and will graduate fourth in her senior class. She attended Lansing Elementary School, Quest and Summit academies and is an International Baccalaureate student at Hinkley High School. Nicholls is a member of the National Honor Society and serves as the captain of the Hinkley swim team.

Nicholls plans to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder and major in environmental engineering. “I feel my time in APS, especially the IB program, has prepared me academically for college. I am ready,” she said.

The Boettcher Foundation began awarding this scholarship in 1952. So far, 58 APS students have earned this prestigious scholarship.
